1927 FIRE
- Those who have read our history in the book, A Place Called Subiaco, by Father Hugh Assenmacher, will know about the second disastrous fire that occured on December 20, 1927. This fire destroyed over two-thirds of the Abbey quadrangle. Attached are documents from that time that describe the event in great details. We have also included a small gallery of photos that are still haunting and depressing. Due to the extraordinary efforts of the monks with their supporters, Subiaco Abbey was rebuilt and continues to thrive even today!
