SOLEMN PROFESSION: Our monastic community at Subiaco was blessed to welcome a new solemnly professed monk into our Chapter. Sam Jannise of Beaumont, TX, was led by God to join our Benedictine community in 2018. After his short time as a candidate, he entered into our novitiate for one year after which he made his profession as a monk on Feb. 2, 2019 and was given the name “Gabriel of the Annunciation” in honor of the Archangel Gabriel. Having served for three years in temporary vows, Br. Gabriel petitioned the Chapter of Solemnly Professed monks of Subiaco to be allowed to make his solemn life-long profession. Having given their approval, Abbot Elijah then received the promise of Br. Gabriel on January 4, 2023, to a perpetual vowed life of stability, fidelity to the monastic way of life, and obedience. Brother was joined in the profession mass by hundreds comprised of Subiaco students, friends, monks, fellow ATU students (where he is finishing his degree in Nursing), Religious, visiting priests from Beaumont, and countless others via live-streaming. Pictured here is Abbot Elijah, Br. Gabriel, and his parents (Deacon John Jannise & Dorothy Jannise). Brother was also joined by his sisters (Mrs. Ann Guidry & Mrs. Emily Hebert) and extended family members. Congratulations to Br. Gabriel for his openness to the call of God to our monastic way of life. Pray for Br. Gabriel as he will be praying for you. UIOGD!
