Welcome and thank you for visiting our information pages on our current capital campaign. Many years ago, our own Fr. Hugh Assenmacher, OSB, wrote a story of the history of Subiaco Abbey entitled A Place Called Subiaco. It’s a compelling book of the struggles and hardships faced by the founding monks as they answered God’s call to serve the German settlers. There is little doubt that the first monks and founders of this place were filled with hope, probably along with some fear. They were leaving everything they had ever known and setting off with a vow of obedience and commitment to do the Father’s work.
Because of the early monks, Subiaco has a legacy of being in the business of Our Father. Their work and efforts were in partnership with the German settlers already in this community. That partnership grew in faith and in good works. Without it, Subiaco would not be in existence today. We remain blessed to this day with friends and family who follow in the footsteps of the early settlers and have joined with Subiaco for many years. Their physical labor, financial support, encouragement, and prayer, along with the direction in our decision-making are continuing signs to us of their bond and commitment in Father’s business.
As we move forward with our projects included in this campaign rightly called Legacy From Tradition: Onward Together, we are ever mindful that God intended the works of Subiaco to be a partnership, not unlike a marriage in some aspects, where He is our center and we work in unison to bring hope and advancement for the future of Subiaco Abbey and Academy.
